IPS Exam 2010

The IPS or Indian Police Service is one among the three All India Services of the Government of India. The other two services are Indian Foreign Service and Indian Administrative Service.
For Serving in the Indian Police Service an individual will have to get through the Civil Services Examination otherwise, he will have to get promotion from the state cadre being conducted by the Union Public Service Commission every year. The main purpose of this examination is to select candidates for the All India Services and for the services coming under the Group A and Group B of the Central Government.
As said earlier the candidate will have to get through the Civil Service Examination for serving as an IPS officer. The IPS examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission and the examination is conducted in two rounds being the preliminary examination and the main examination. Only the candidate getting through the preliminary examination will be called for the main examination. In the preliminary examination candidates will be required to take up written test, while in the main examination there will be both written test and interview.
For the posts in Indian Police Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Administrative Service and other Group A and Group B Services of the Central Government, the Union Public Service Commission has issued a notification as to conduct the examination on the 23rd of May 2010. The last date for submission of application for this examination is 1st February 2010.
A candidate belonging to general category can make four attempts for IPS examination and this number is seven in the case of candidates coming under reserved category like SC/ST, physically handicapped and other backward classes.
